A bright, breezy and mild morning greeted the 354 runners who raced to Lauder on Sunday to get the best parking places for the inaugural race of the 2014/15 Borders Winter Cross Country series. Steep hill climbs, burn crossings, mud and slippery ups and downs welcomed the 91 junior and an amazing 263 senior runners from across the Borders and further afield in the first of the 6 event programme running from November to February. Gala Harriers’ youngsters were out in force and 31 of them enjoyed the hills of bonnie Lauderdale, ensuring that a good sprinkling of green and white vests featured strongly throughout the field. Of special note were Jamie Logan (12 minutes eight seconds) Callum Thane (12.15) and Corri Campbell (12.17) who worked well together and came in 2nd, 3rd and 4th in their boys’ 14/15 age category. For the girls, Katie Rourke (13.54) was the second girl home and first in the same girls’ age category. Also finishing first in their aged 10/11 categories with impressive runs were Gregor Collins (13.10) and Harriet Woodland-Broome (14.57)
